This is a plain-English license. It explains what you buy, what you can do with it, and what you can't. It is included inside the software download as LICENSE.md. By downloading, installing or using the software you agree to it.
1. What you buy
You buy a license to use the Djangify Self-Hosted software: the complete source code, templates, documentation and AI setup guides included in the download.
You don't buy the copyright. Djangify keeps the copyright in the software. What you get is the right to run it, change it and build on it for your own business, under the terms below.
2. One license, one business
One license covers one business and one live website.
You can also run as many private copies as you need for that same business, such as a copy on your own computer or a test version of your site. Those copies don't count as extra sites.
If you want to run Djangify for a second business or a second live website, that needs a second license.
3. What you can do
- Install it on any server you choose, and move it to a different server whenever you like.
- Change anything in it: templates, themes, colors, features and code.
- Build new features into it yourself, with an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT, or with a developer you hire to work on your installation.
- Sell as many products as you want through it. Djangify takes no commission on your sales.
- Keep using the version you have for as long as you want, even after your update period ends (see section 5).
4. What you can't do
- Sell, give away, share or publish the software, or any modified version of it.
- Put the source code in a public place, such as a public GitHub repository.
- Use it to build or run websites for other people or other businesses, including clients, unless each of those businesses has its own license. (Agencies and freelancers: contact djangify@djangify.com.)
- Offer it to others as a hosted service or a platform.
- Remove the copyright notices from the code.
If you break these terms, your license ends and you must stop using the software.
5. Updates: 12 months or your download allowance, whichever runs out first
Your purchase includes updates for 12 months from the date of purchase, or until you have used your download allowance, whichever comes first.
Your download allowance is 5 downloads. Every download counts, including downloading the same version again.
In practice: if you use all 5 downloads in your first 3 months, your update period has ended, even though 12 months haven't passed. When a new version comes out in month 10, there are no downloads left to get it.
So keep your downloads for updates. Download once to install, save a copy of the zip somewhere safe (your computer and a cloud drive), and use your remaining downloads when you receive an email telling you an update is available.
When your update period ends, nothing stops working. You keep the version you have and can run it for as long as you want. There are no forced upgrades.
6. Support
This license does not include personal, one-to-one support.
Every stage of setting up and running Djangify has a written guide and an AI-assisted guide in the Your Documentation folder. Upload the relevant file to Claude or ChatGPT and it will walk you through it.
If something in the software itself is broken (a bug), email djangify@djangify.com with what happened and any error message. Bugs in the product are fixed in a future update. Problems caused by changes you or someone you hired made to the code are not covered.
If you want someone to install Djangify for you, that is a separate paid service.
7. You own your business
Your content, your products, your customer list, your orders and your data belong to you. Djangify never has access to them unless you give it (for example, during a paid installation), and does not collect them.
Any feature you build into your own installation is yours to use in your business. It is covered by this license like the rest of the code, so the same "no reselling or sharing" terms apply to the software as a whole.
8. Your responsibilities
Because you run the software yourself, you are responsible for:
- your server and hosting costs
- your domain name
- your Stripe account and any payment processing fees
- keeping regular backups and keeping a safe copy of your encryption key
- keeping your server and the software up to date
- any AI provider costs, since AI features run on your own API key
- following the laws that apply to your business, such as tax, VAT and privacy law
9. Other software included
Djangify is built on open-source software such as Django, Tailwind CSS, Alpine.js, HTMX, TinyMCE and Adminita. Those components keep their own licenses, which are included where they appear in the code. This license covers the Djangify software, not those components.
10. No warranty
The software is provided "as is". It has been built and used to run real stores, including djangify.com, but no software is free of faults, and it is not guaranteed to be error-free or suitable for every purpose.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Djangify is not liable for any loss of profit, revenue, data or business arising from your use of the software. Djangify's total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for this license. Nothing in this license limits any rights you have by law that cannot be limited.
11. Refunds: 14-day it-works guarantee
If you follow the documentation and the software does not install and run as it describes, email djangify@djangify.com within 14 days of purchase with your order number and what happened, and you will receive a full refund.
This covers the software not working as documented. It does not cover a change of mind, or problems with things outside Djangify such as your hosting provider, domain name or Stripe account. A refund ends this license, and you agree to delete all copies of the software.
If your download is corrupted or incomplete, email the same address and you will be sent a replacement.
12. Changes and governing law
This license is governed by the law of England and Wales. The version of this license that applies to you is the one included in the version of the software you downloaded.
