People now ask ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity what to buy, and Google shows AI answers above its results. Those systems can only recommend your products if they can tell what each one is for. Your shop has three features that help: Product Knowledge, a buyer FAQ on each product, and an llms.txt summary of your shop. A free audit shows what is missing.
Product Knowledge
Your product description is written to sell. Product Knowledge is a separate layer written to explain. You find it on each product's edit page under Product Knowledge (AI/search discoverability). It has four fields:
- Problem this solves: the specific problem a buyer has that this product fixes.
- Who it is for: the specific kind of person, not "everyone".
- What makes it different: what sets it apart from other ways to solve the same problem.
- Search terms: the words a buyer would type or say.
This information feeds your product's structured data, which search engines and AI systems read, and keeps your visible sales copy free to be about persuasion.
The buyer FAQ
Under Product Questions (FAQ) on the same page, add the questions buyers actually ask, with short, direct answers. They appear as a visible Q and A on the product page, on both the standard and landing-page layouts, and are also added to the page's FAQ structured data. Good questions are the ones you answer in emails and messages again and again.
Drafting both with AI
If you have connected an AI provider, a link on the product edit page drafts Product Knowledge and the FAQ from your existing description. First switch on the Product Knowledge and Q&A generator under AI, then AI Settings. Always read and edit the draft: it only knows what your description says, so correct anything that is wrong or generic.
You can also ask Claude to write them if you have connected the shop to Claude. See The MCP Connector and AI Assistant.
llms.txt
Your shop automatically publishes a plain-text summary of what you sell at yourdomain.com/llms.txt. It is written in Markdown so AI systems can read your catalogue, pages and blog without having to pick through the page design. There is nothing to set up. Open the address in your browser to see what it says. If something is wrong in it, fix the product or page it comes from.
The Site Audit
The Site Audit scans your catalogue, pages, blog and SEO settings and tells you what to fix. It is free and does not need an AI key. It includes an AI Discoverability section that lists products with no Product Knowledge or FAQ yet, so you can work through them one at a time.
A good order of work
- Start with your best-selling or most important product.
- Fill in the four Product Knowledge fields in plain language.
- Add five to eight real buyer questions.
- Run the Site Audit and check the AI Discoverability section.
- Open /llms.txt and read it as a stranger would.
